Baseball

New for 2014 (all coaches must hold a coaching certification approved by the RYRA  board)

T-Ball (Co-ed Program)
Non-league or traveling team
Typically recommended for 5 and 6 years old (Must turn 5 by May 1st)

Coaches teach the fundamentals of hitting and fielding.  All batters will hit the ball from a batting tee.  The primary goal is to instruct young players in the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and supportive environment.

Traveling Ararat Cal Ripken League Divisions
Area towns traveled to: Bowdoinham, Bowdoin, Harpswell, Topsham and Lisbon

Rookie

Typically recommended for 7 to 8 years old (younger kids may qualify)
Players placed at this level will be introduced to the pitching machine program.  This level is for players to improve upon their skills to move onto the next level (Minor).  By controlling the pitches with a pitching machine, there is more action at the plate and in the field.  Skill assessment is mandatory for all (unless you're a returning player) to move up from the T-ball level or a new player to the program. Each team shall consist of approximately 9-12 players (more or less if needed).

Minor
Typically recommended for 9-10 years old (younger kids may qualify)
By now the player should have gained the general fielding and hitting skills that they need to be ready for live baseball.  It is at the Minor level that players first experience pitching the full game.  Safety is our number one concern and a skills assessment is mandatory for all (unless you're a returning player) to move up from the Rookie level or a new player to the program.  Each team shall consist of no less than nine (9) players or no more than fifteen (15) players unless approved by the Ararat League Board of Directors.  Each team shall be composed of not more than eight (8) twelve (12) year old players unless approved by the Ararat League Board of Directors.

Major
Typically recommended for 11-12 years old (younger kids may qualify)
The most experienced level of Ararat Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth baseball/softball.  Pitching is very fast and game situations are more complex.  Players placed at this level will be based on skill level and most of all safety concerns for themselves as well as others.  Skill assessment is mandatory for everyone (unless you're a returning player).  Each team shall consist of no less than twelve (12) players or no more than fifteen (15) players unless approved by the Ararat League Board of Directors.  Each team shall be composed of not more than eight (8) twelve (12) year old players unless approved by the Ararat League Board of Directors.
