Welcome to the Public Works Page!

This four-man crew is responsible for making sure the roads are safe & well maintained throughout all seasons.  There are approximately 36 miles of road in the summer & approximately 48 miles of road which needs to be plowed and sanded in the winter. There is still approximately 8 miles of gravel road in Richmond.  Please reach out with any concerns or questions.

Posted Roads:  they are normally posted for heavy traffic from the end of February until the beginning of May.

Parking Ban: here is a parking ban in effect from November 15th thru April 15th from 11:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. every year. Your cooperation in observing this is greatly appreciated.

Driveway Entrance Permits: New driveway entrance permits may be obtained from the CEO at the Town Office or on the Code Enforcement page of this web site. The property owner is responsible for purchasing the first culvert and Public Works will install and maintain culverts after that.

Winter Sand: a salt & sand mix is available @ 19 High Street with a limit of 2 buckets per storm

State DOT:  The State owns Alexander Reed Rd, Brunswick Rd, Front St, Main St, Throrofare Rd, River Rd & White Rd.  The State plows Brunswick Rd, Main St & Front St to the bridge, the Town public works crew plows the other state roads.

2023 RICHMOND PUBLIC WORKS SPRING/SUMMER WORK PLAN

  • April: Removal/Storage of ice rink
  • April: Deep cleaning of all trucks and equipment, fluid film, repairs, paint, services, emptying of calcium tanks and running windshield washer fluid through pumps.
  • April-September: Road Patching.
  • April: Road sweeping and sidewalk sweeping.
  • April: (Weather permitting): Grading of dirt roads.
  • April-September: Roadside brush cutting.
  • April: Turning water on and opening Comfort Station and Houdlette.
  • May: Senior Banners
  • May: Waterfront/Peacock Kayak Launch
  • Pumping tank at Houdlette and Peacock Beach
  • April-May: Prepping grounds for mowing like picking up brush, sticks and repairing areas that have been dug up from snow removal. 

April: Servicing and repairing mowing equipment and getting supplies like Weed Wacker line and mixed gas oil.

  • May-September:  Cutting brush, ditching, replacing culverts, tree cutting.
  • Plummer Road: Culvert replacement/tree cutting.
  • Grade road edges of paved roads and clean up dead sand and sod.

  • July: Call for catch basin cleaning.

  • May-November: Summer mowing and maintenance of all town parks and properties.
